To all at Antrim association
Dear Members of the Association, your opinions & help is required. Here is a copy of Taff Dales's e mails & replies to
Matthew Sheldon,
Head of Curatorial Department
Royal Naval Museum
This time I am contacting you as a member of the HMS Antrim Association committee, we have a model of the ship which comes along and has pride of place at all our annual reunions around the country. The model is a full scale model of the ship at 1st Commission and was built by the 1st Buffer of HMS Antrim, Reg Edwards. Unfortunately Reg is no longer with us and the model now resides in the Royal Southsea Yacht Club, in the library, on top of a bookcase for most of the year. The model, which is approx. 6" X 1" X 2", has recently undergone a refit and is in excellent condition. It is a great shame that this particular piece of maritime history can not be viewed by more people. It was agreed at the last Committee meeting that I contact you and see if we can make some arrangements to give the ship a permanent home in the museum, providing that we could remove it annually around the 2nd weekend in October for the reunions. I visited the dockyard yesterday with my family and noticed that there are no models of any of the Portsmouth based GMD's on display! Taff
Chris, (Taff) Thank you for your email and the offer. I can confirm that we are certainly interested. We have one model of HMS Devonshire which is in very poor repair and so we would like to deaccession this model and replace it with Antrim. Unfortunately we would be unable to guarantee if or when the model is displayed as our display space is extremely limited and we would need to integrate it into existing displays. Having said this we may well be able to display it elsewhere in the Museum ie landing or corridor until we can find space in a permanent gallery. We hold the nameboards from Antrim so these could be displayed on the base. I'm assuming from the photographs the model doesn't have a perspex or glass cover? Does it have any form of case? We are unable to accept items on loan (unless for display) and so we would require the model to be an outright gift but I do not foresee any major problems with loaning the model back to the Association for reunions.
Matthew
So, what do we do? I don't think (personal thought) theres much to think about, however, it's the memebrs choice. Please have a think about it, & in October we can make an informed, Association decision.

Hello Guys,
I emailed the Antrim site a few months ago with a few anecdotes. I was on the Far east commission from 1978-1981, I remember Wally Swift and Taff. In fact I served with Collingwood CBM with Taff before being drafted to the Antrim. I was an LREM (LwemR) 3P and 2E messes.
I'm contacting you because I am about to do a Charity Cycle Ride from Rome to Monte Carlo for Help for Heroes and Leukaemia Research. My on-line donations pages to other ships co' members.
The sites are:

Kind regards,
Eddie Grice.
Good luck Eddie, from all at The Antrim Association
Lets give generously to this worthwhile effort. (mark your donation Antrim Asso)

- Hi, Found the Antrim websight whilst doing a web search at work for the Bomb Alley book. Antrim was my last ship before RDP and civvy street way back in 83. Have enclosed a few pics that I found whilst Antrim was the Windies Guard ship 1983, can remember Stu Bartlett but none of the others names now, the pic of the six around a car is from Key West when we hired it crashed it done a runner got caught in the morning just before sailing and then had to buy it from the owner. Be great to hear from anyone that remembers me or any of the others in the pics or maybe see themselves in the pics. We were all from the Gunners mess apart from the Booty and the blonde guy in front of the 4.5 gun who I think if my memory serves me right was a PO Gunner.
- Cheers Danny Bundock A/B(M)

- Fellas, Just browsing and reminiscing and came across the site, dunno if you remember me, Kevin Morby AB Gunner, joined from Pompey field gun in 78 and left for civvy street in 79, Remember Dave Leen / John Bowen were all from the same estate here in the Boro [Middlesbrough] other names spring to mind. George O'Donnell , slugger storey boxer. we had a wicked football team with CPTI robson I believe he was also a native of the Boro. I returned just days after you got back from Falklands as Boro were away to Pompey and there was still a few old faces. anyway just thought I'd chip in with some useless info.
