Captain (Rt'd) B.G.Young RN DSO was an inspirational leader that took his ship to war and back again. Without his knowledge, leadership and man management many of his young sailors would have cracked up under the pressure. Sir I salute you, and will always raise a tot
in your honour at Christmas time.
Shelia, our deepest sympathies and thoughts are with you at this time.
Steve(Winnie) & Nicky Churchill
I will always remember his joyfulness, cheerfulness and politeness with everyone onboard didn't matter what time of day or night and when alongside, his first thoughts were for the Ship's Company. He will always be remembered.

Brian Young was an old and trusted friend whose death is a great loss to us all. The list grows longer every year as it inevitably must, but at least those of us who came back were mostly given many more years. Their memory does not fade
Yours sincerely,
Adm Sir Sandy Woodward. GBE, KCB

Captain Brian Young RN DSO a truly inspirational man and a true leader who I will never forget. Bon voyage Sir. Sheila my deepest sympathies to you and your family.
Sincerely Leigh (Quoz) Qurrey
I served with Captain Brian Young twice, both times as his Navigator. The first was in HMS Danae in 1975 when we were in SNFL and also Deep Water Fish Patrol north of Iceland, and the second time was in HMS Antrim 1981-82. He was a delightful captain to work for, who set and maintained very high standards which the rest of us had to reach. I will remember him as an always thoughtful, caring and a very 'human' man, concerned with the welfare of his Ship's Companies and for the good of his ship. He took the greatest interest in people long after they had left his service and I feel honoured to have served with him and the poorer for his passing.
Christopher Morrison
There are brilliant leaders. There are sound advisers who always seem to have the right answers, and deliver the correct guidance. There are true 'gentlemen'. To have all of these qualities is to be Brian Young. It has been a privilege to know you and an honour to serve with you. We will miss you.

A truly great man. As a Captain, unsurpassed. As a leader, inspirational. As a friend, loyal and true. I had the honour to serve with him and be presented with my South Atlantic Medal by him. Always a reliable and wise counsel when we talked over Association business, he also had the care and thought to ask after the welfare and progress of my children, particularly since the passing of their mum. I will miss him in so many ways. A true officer and gentleman.
Thank you Brian.
Sincere condolences to Sheila and family.
Yours Aye. Stu Pennock.

It is with deep sadness that I write this message. Captain Young "Sir", you were a true Officer and a Gentleman, it was a privilege to have served with you. In my 23 years in the Navy I served with Officers good and bad. Brian stood head and shoulders above all of them. In times of conflict strong leadership is needed, we had this from our Captain. Captain Young was liked, trusted and respected by all of us. It was an honour to have served under him and in the later years it was an honour to have got to know Brian the man.
Our very heartfelt condolences go to Sheila and the family.
Taff and Edith Dale
For a person with such a distinguished record you couldn’t wish to meet a more modest and charming man. It was a real joy to have Brian and Sheila as special guests at the 2002 Festival of Remembrance when Terry Bullingham said the Festival citation – I know it was a very special evening for Brian.
It was a great privilege not only to know Brian, but to count him as a dear friend. My thoughts and prayers are very much with Sheila and the family at this time.

I was deeply sadden too hear the news of the passing of our skipper, Brian. I was privilaged to serve on board Antrim from !982- 1984, and was also given the honour to work for him as his steward in that time. He was a real gentleman and will be missed by every one.
My thoughts, and Amanda and Jasmines go to all of his family. god bless.
It was very sad news to hear about the passing of Brian Young. Unfortunately, I will not be able to make the funeral but would like to offer my condolences to Sheila and family on this very sad occasion. He was a great man who inspired courage and hope in all of us.
It was an honour to have known and served with him.

The news about the passing of Captain Brain Young has saddened us all,I served with him on Antrim 82-84 a great honour, a true officer and gentelman.
Sincere condolences to Sheila and family.
Keith and Marit Autrey.
My wife Julie and I are so sad to find our lives lessened by the passing of Brian. He was one of the few gentlemen officers in the Royal Navy with whom I had the privilage to serve, deserving of respect, admiration and loyality from all who crossd his wake.
Julie and I give to Shelia our fondest love and support at this sad time and in the future.

He was the finest Skipper I had the privilege to serve under in my Naval career. His great leadership and coolness under pressure was an inspiration to us all and we would have followed him to the end of the world. As it was, he guided us through very troubled waters and brought us back safely - what more could we ask for. We will all miss him and owe him a big debt of gratitude.
Thank you Skipper and a safe final voyage.
Mike Morgan Marine Engineer Officer 1981-84.

I was so sorry to hear of Brian's death. As a Leading Steward I did many tasks in regards to a Captain's Steward with many a memory. He was a great Captain. Thoughts to the family.

' It was a privilege and fun to serve with Captain Brian Young. He lead us south to the Falklands and brought us home safely after an epic, dangerous odyssey. I will remember this fine officer and gentleman with considerable affection.'
Angus Sandford, Executive Officer HMS ANTRIM
I have very fond memories of Brian through many times in our careers , not just Antrim. Always polite, with a ready smile and words of welcome when we met – a true gent and very sadly missed. Most recently of course we have seen each other at the annual service at Pangbourne – he was a truly devoted supporter of the Chapel from the start and we hope Sheila continues to come in June

WITH MUCH SADNESS I WISH TO POST MY SINCERE THOUGHTS TO CAPTAIN YOUNGS WIFE SHEILA AND TO ALL SHIPMATES BOTH ROYAL NAVY AND ROYAL MARINES WHO SERVED ABOARD HMS ANTRIM PRIMARILY DURING THE FALKLANDS CONFLICT. I PERSONALLY WOULD RANK CAPTAIN YOUNG AS AMONGST THE FINEST COMMANDING OFFICERS I HAD THE HONOUR TO SERVE UNDER DURING MY 24 YEAR CAREER.
CORPORAL S C EDWARDS ( NUTTY ) SHIPS POSTIE
I was very saddened to read of Brian's death. I had the great privilege and pleasure of working with Brian, after his retirement from the Royal Navy, during his time at Marconi in Stanmore. I had no appreciation that his naval career had been marked by so many great and courageous achievements. A modest, loyal, supportive, capable and thoroughly decent gentleman. What a dark horse! I am immensely proud to have known and worked with him.
My condolences to his widow, Sheila.

Today I have found out about the death of the Captain Young. I want to make come my deepest condolences to his wife Sheila and to whom they were his crew members in the destroyer HMS Antrim. He was a great professional and demonstrated his qualities of a great gentleman, since also I had the opportunity to meet him in London in the year 1999.
